Coach Jo Woong-cheon (52), a ‘symbol of the aid’s consistency’, joins ‘Lee Seung-yeop’.

Doosan recently confirmed the hiring of coach Jo Woong-cheon. After four years, I got to wear the Doosan uniform again.

Coach Cho served as a future coach at Doosan from 2017 to 2019. He went to Lotte Giants as a pitching coach after the 2019 season, and then coached pitchers at SSG Landers starting in 2021.

He was the first-team pitching coach from 2021 to 2023, but was moved to futures coach last September to revamp the atmosphere due to consecutive losses.

Coach Joe was a ‘symbol of consistency’ during his active years. He joined the Pacific Dolphins in 1990, went through the Hyundai Unicorns, and then donned the SK Wyverns (now SSG) uniform. He made history as a relief pitcher by becoming the first KBO player to appear in more than 50 games for 13 consecutive years from 1996 to 2008, the year before his retirement. He was the 2000 Holds King (16 holds) and the 2003 Saves King (30 saves).

His capabilities as a leader were also recognized. He contributed to SSG’s combined championship last year. Although he was moved to Futures in the middle of the season this season, he led Seo Jin-yong’s 30 saves in Noblon, the first in the KBO League.

This season, Doosan finished the regular season in 5th place, and the coaching staff leak continued. A total of five coaches have left so far. Above all, it was painful to see the departure of the ‘main’ coach when former Doosan coach Kim Tae-hyung took over as head coach of the Lotte Giants. First-team coaches Kim Joo-chan, Ko Young-min, and Futures coach Yoo Jae-shin chose to go to Lotte. They all developed a relationship with Coach Kim while he was a coach during his tenure as head coach of Doosan.

In addition, coach Jae-hoon Jeong, who was the pitching coach for the 1st and 2nd teams this season, left to become the pitching coach for the KIA Tigers, and coach Woo-seok Kim, who was the futures operation and defense coach, moved to the first team defense coach for the Hanwha Eagles.굿모닝토토

After the season ended, five coaches left, and internal coaching staff reorganization became necessary. First of all, the pitching department, which was one of the urgent issues, was able to take a breather with the hiring of experienced coach Woong-cheon Cho.

Doosan plans to continue selecting first and second team coaches, including the base running part of the operation.
