By Seo Jang-won Reporter = The South Korean women’s baseball team departed for Canada on Saturday for the final group stage of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup 2024.
The team, led by head coach Yang Sang-moon, will play Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, the United States and Mexico in the Group A qualifier in Thunder Bay, Canada, starting on Sept. 9.
Korea’s goal is to advance to next year’s final round.
The first and second place teams from Group A, the first and second place teams from Group B (Japan, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and France), and two wild cards will compete in the final round next year in Thunder Bay.
The Korean Women’s National Team, which is composed entirely of amateur players, has been gathering in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and Changwon, Gyeongnam, for training camps to strengthen its organization.
Recently, the team played a practice game against Daechi Middle School at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, home of the professional baseball team KT Wiz.
The KBO secretariat and the Korea Baseball Players Association handed out encouragement money to the women’s national team before their departure.스포츠토토
South Korea will begin the tournament against Hong Kong on Sept. 9, followed by the United States (Oct. 10), Australia (Nov. 11), Canada (Dec. 12) and Mexico (Dec. 13).
