  • Only 3 players in the major leagues have played 1,000 games before age 40
  • In Japan, Hitoki Iwase reached 1,000 games at age 43.

Jeong Woo-ram (Hanwha) became the first pitcher in KBO history to appear in 1,000 games.

In a home game against the NC Dinos at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on July 2, Jung came on as the second pitcher after starter Felix Peña in the top of the seventh inning and got Oh Young-soo to ground out to second base to end the game. He only faced one batter, but it was enough to earn his 1,000th career start.

A pitcher’s 1,000th game is a rare milestone, even in Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball. In neighboring Japan, Hitoki Iwase’s 1,002 games pitched in the 2018 season is the most ever. In the 40-and-under category, 38-year-old Jung Woo-ram will be the only pitcher in the East to reach 1,000 games. Iwase reached the 1,000-game mark at age 43.

In the 100-year history of Major League Baseball, only 16 pitchers have reached 1,000 games. Jesse Orozco, who is synonymous with longevity, holds the all-time record with 1,252 games, followed by Mike Stanton, John Franco, and Mariano Rivera. Only four players have played more than 1,100 games, with Dennis Eckersley at No. 5 on the list with 1,071. Of these five, Rivera and Eckersley are Hall of Famers.메이저사이트

Of the 16 major league pitchers with more than 1,000 games, only three reached the milestone in their age-40 season. Mike Stanton, Lee Smith, and Michael Jackson. So reaching this milestone in his 38th season is a near-record.

Jung, who made his debut in 2004, has played 974 innings in 1,000 games, with a 64-47 record, 197 saves, and a 3.17 ERA, despite playing two less seasons as a full-time reserve in 2013-14.
