LG Twins’ Jeong Ju-hyun has ended a four-and-a-half-hour battle. It was an ending that wouldn’t have been possible without a body-throwing hustle play.
LG won 5-4 in 12 extra innings against the Kiwoom Heroes of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on Wednesday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul. After sending Kiwoom to its fifth straight loss, LG has won seven straight games to improve to 56-2-33 on the season.
Jeong reached on a grounder to first base in the top of the 11th inning of extra innings, and as the game continued into the bottom of the 12th, Jeong was called up to bat. Facing Kiwoom Yang-hyun with runners on second and third, Jung took a 6-pitch two-seam fastball on a 2-2 count.
The ball was hit in an ambiguous direction toward the second base side, and Kiwoom shortstop Kim Joo-hyung made a good catch and threw it straight to first base. However, a head-first sliding catch by Jeong Ju-hyun after a sprint ended the game in favor of LG.
After the game, Jung emphasized that he got the game-winning hit off the bat of Oh Ji-hwan, saying, “I had no answer unless it was a safe. I think I was subconsciously playing ‘safe, safe’ the whole time,” he said, adding, “It’s been a long time, and I’m glad I was able to contribute to the team.” He also shared his thoughts on the game-winning hit.먹튀검증
After Jeong’s infield hit, Kiwoom requested a video review, but it didn’t change the outcome. “I was nervous because I was sliding for the first time in a long time, but my teammates all said, ‘It’s safe. I was relieved when they said, ‘It’s safe,'” he laughed.
Jung Joo-hyun once competed for the starting second base job, but didn’t play a single game last year. This season, he’s only gotten 45 at-bats, including this one, so it’s not easy to get on base. However, Jung said, “I’m very happy just to be here right now. I’m grateful to the coach,” he said, “and I’m happy to be able to help the team again today.”
