Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias has been arrested for physically assaulting a woman.
Citing multiple sources, entertainment and sports publication TMZ reported on Aug. 8 (local time) that Urias was arrested on Sunday at BMO Field in Los Angeles, California.
BMO Field is a stadium located in the center of Los Angeles and is home to LAFC of the Major League Soccer (MLS).
On Sunday, the stadium hosted a match between LAFC and Inter Miami. The game was highly anticipated due to Lionel Messi’s appearance.
Being local, the game was attended by a number of celebrities and professional athletes. So much so that the LAFC organization had to release a press release listing all the celebrities who attended the game.
Urias was on the list, along with teammate Clayton Kershaw.
According to TMZ’s sources, including stadium workers, Urias first pushed a woman into a fence on the field. Then, after getting into his car, he assaulted her again.
The incident came to light when a “concerned citizen” called police after seeing a man punch a woman, the LA Times reported Thursday, citing a report released by Exposition Park, which manages the stadium. The caller did not recognize the man as Urias.
Police responded to the call, and Urias was arrested on the spot on suspicion of domestic violence. He is currently out on bail and is awaiting a court appearance.
His employer, Major League Baseball, placed him on administrative leave under the Convention on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse on July 7 to investigate the incident. He will be investigated by the commissioner’s office separately from the judicial process.
His team, the Dodgers, has begun to clear the air. They canceled a Urias bobblehead giveaway promotion scheduled for Sept. 21.
Urias is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA in 21 games and 117 1/3 innings this season.
In eight major league seasons, Urias is 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA in 158 games. He helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020 and finished third in the Cy Young Award voting in 2022 after leading the National League in ERA.온라인카지노
He will be eligible for free agency after this season, but the incident makes it unclear whether he will continue his big league career.
