Yomiuri Giants’ No. 4 hitter Kazuma Okamoto (27) hits his 32nd home run of the season. He fired up the cannon in the last at-bat of the eighth inning against the Yokohama BayStars at the Tokyo Dome on Aug. 13.
It was his first home run in five games after hitting his 31st against the Hiroshima Carp on Aug. 8. He extended his lead over the Yakult Swallows’ “monster hitter” Munetaka Murakami (23) to 10 games. He has the most home runs in both the Central and Pacific Leagues. In the Pacific League, Hideto Asamura (33) of the Rakuten Eagles leads the way with 21.
After hitting his 31st of the season, his hitting has slowed down a bit. He’s just 2-for-15. Four games passed without a home run or RBI.
Game 13 was also a struggle. In the bottom of the first inning, he hit a single to left before striking out in three straight at-bats.
In the second inning, he faced left-hander Genta Ishida and was hit by a changeup down and away on a full count. In the fourth inning, he was hit by a low outside fastball from right-hander Kaiga Kamichatani.
In the bottom of the sixth, it was a similar story. Right-hander Daita Miyagi dragged his bat on a forkball dropped low and outside in the 1B2S.
He faced three different pitchers before going down on a low ball outside.
Last at-bat of the eighth inning with a 7-1 lead. He didn’t miss a pitch. A 139-kilometer-per-hour fastball from right-hander Ryosuke Miyaguni was driven up the middle. He pulled it and sent it over the left-field fence of the Tokyo Dome. It was a massive 131-meter home run that sailed over the top of the bleachers.
It was his 10th home run this month. It is the most home runs in a month for Zashi.
Yomiuri’s bats came alive in the first inning as they took an 8-1 lead. They scored six runs on six hits, including two home runs in the first inning.온라인바카
They seemed to know the pitching patterns of their opponents and attacked them aggressively. Five batters, including No. 1 Hisayoshi Jono and Okamoto, took advantage of early pitches for hits.
In 103 games, Okamoto is batting .298 (111-for-373) with 32 home runs and 73 RBIs.
