After bolstering its back end with the addition of Bummer, Atlanta traded away a number of prospects it had accumulated.

Soroka (2015), Schuster (2020), and Schmidt (2019) were all first-round picks by Atlanta in the First-Year Player Draft.

Soroka broke into the major leagues in 2018 and went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA the following year. However, an Achilles tendon injury in 2020 limited him to three appearances. He suffered another ankle injury while rehabbing, and it took him a long time to get back to full health. When he returned to the majors this year, he went 2-2 with a 6.40 ERA in seven games.

Schuster, who made his big league debut this year, went 4-3 with a 5.81 ERA in 11 games. Schmake, also making his first major league at-bats this season, went 0-for-4 in two games.
