‘Korean big leaguer’ finishes it off…rest day→extended pinch-hitter→first pitch hit “It’s a good way to end the rest day.”

Posted on 31 August 2023 by maxytee.com

“It was a good way to end the off day.”

Tommy Hyun-Soo Edmon (St. Louis Cardinals) came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 10th inning to deliver the winning run against the San Diego Padres during the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, on June 30 (ET).

Edmon, who represented South Korea in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), was injured last month. He made his comeback on Aug. 2 against the Minnesota Twins. He was scheduled to be rested for the game, but came up to bat in the bottom of the 10th inning with a crucial opportunity.

With the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 10th, the Cardinals had runners at first and third on a sacrifice bunt by Rich Palacios. San Diego elected to walk Paul Goldschmidt on an automatic high-five, which prompted the Cardinals to bring Edmon to the plate to pinch-hit for a surprised Gorman.

Edmon stepped up to the plate and took a Josh Hader fastball. He hit a 96 mph (about 154 km/h) body sinker. The pitch sailed out of the zone and landed in front of the left-field fence. Left fielder Juan Soto had no choice but to give it up. Edmon’s game-winning hit helped St. Louis snap a four-game losing streak.

“He was ready to go,” St. Louis manager Oliver Mamol said, according to Harold Bulletin.

“It was a good way to end the off day,” said Edmon, who had his fourth career walk-off hit. “I thought I could contribute in some way. We haven’t had that many wins lately. It felt good.”

If Edman was the one to close out the game, it was Wilson Contreras who pushed the game into extra innings. Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double, two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Trailing 2-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Contreras hit an 80 mph (128 km/h) curveball from Seth Lugo for a one-run home run. Trailing 3-5 in the eighth, he tied the game with a two-run homer off Robert Suarez.

Contreras’ parents were at the game. When Contreras returned from his home run, he looked at them and did a little ceremony. ”I was just trying to do something nice for them,” he said, “I hadn’t been playing well lately. I needed something to make me feel better.”온라인바카

Meanwhile, San Diego’s Ha-Sung Kim, who started at first base, went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. It was his 11th hit in 11 games and his 50th RBI of the season. However, the bullpen collapsed and the team suffered an upset loss.

Forhandlingene om en langtidskontrakt for Kim Tae-gun går tregere enn forventet, til tross for at partene er enige om vilkårene.

Posted on 31 August 2023 by maxytee.com

스포츠토토

Is injury the price of winning the WBC…From Sasaki Ohtani to Darvish, three of Japan’s four starters are injured

Posted on 30 August 2023 by maxytee.com

Team Japan entered the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) as the strongest team in history, and it took them just three tournaments to lift the trophy. It’s been 14 years since they won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2009. Shohei Ohtani (LA Angels), Darvish Yu (San Diego Padres), Roki Sasaki (Chiba Lotte Marines), and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Orix Buffaloes) formed the strongest starting lineup.

Ohtani, Darvish, Sasaki and Yamamoto fulfilled their responsibilities by starting against China, South Korea, Czech Republic and Australia in the first round. Ohtani and Darvish started the quarterfinals against Italy and Sasaki and Yamamoto started and relieved in the semifinals against Mexico. Darvish and Ohtani pitched side-by-side in the final against the United States to help win the title.

Three of Japan’s four starting pitchers were injured, perhaps due to the dreaded WBC hangover. Sasaki, Ohtani, and now Darvish have been sidelined with injuries.

The San Diego club announced on Monday (July 29) that Darvish was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

Darvish was removed from his start against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 26 after giving up five runs on six hits (one home run) in four innings. It was his 10th loss of the season (8 wins).

His command has dropped off in August. Three losses in five starts with no wins and a 4.66 ERA. Only two of those five starts were quality starts (6+ innings, 3 earned runs or less).

There is no specific future schedule yet. Some U.S. media outlets have suggested that Darvish may not pitch the rest of the season if San Diego’s slump continues.

San Diego is in fourth place out of five teams in the National League West. A postseason berth is unlikely. Darvish re-signed for six years and $108 million in February, just before the start of the WBC.

Last week, “Superstar” Ohtani was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow. He will be limited to batting for the remainder of the season after being a dominant two-hitter. The team has not yet decided if he will undergo surgery, which could be a repeat of the same procedure in 2018.

Before Darvish and Ohtani, Sasaki was sidelined with an injury. Sasaki started against the SoftBank Hawks on July 24 and gave up one run on four hits in six innings before being pulled. He left the game after throwing 93 pitches due to left side pain.

The next day, the Chiba Lotte team announced that Sasaki had been diagnosed with a left lateral muscle strain. He had been pitching with plenty of rest under the club’s care.온라인바카

He was 7-2 with a 1.48 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 13 games. Sasaki is expected to return to the

Sasaki recently started pitching after a month on the disabled list.

All three players’ injuries came late in the season, and many baseball experts suspect WBC hangover. They say that the injuries were caused by pitching and building up their bodies faster than usual for the tournament.

September Expansion Entry D-2, Who’s Up? The pool is obvious, but the commanders are struggling, why?

Posted on 30 August 2023 by maxytee.com

The KT-Samsung game in Suwon on Sept. 29 was canceled due to rain.

Prior to the game, KT Wiz manager Lee Kang-cheol and Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man were asked side-by-side about the September expansion entry.

Both managers gave vague hints but did not mention any specific names.

Lee Kang-cheol said, “We don’t have any pitchers to add. I think we should go with the players we have here,” Lee said, laughing, “There is a player who is expected to be a beast.”

Kang Baek-ho, who is in the rehabilitation program, is the top candidate depending on his personal status. Pitcher Choi Seok-ho and catcher Kang Hyun-woo, who are both playing in the Futures League, are also strong candidates.

“We already have a pitcher and a bat,” Park said. However, we may need to make additional substitutions through today’s and tomorrow’s games, so we’ll wait until the day after tomorrow’s game to decide.”

Choi Ha-neul will be the starter for the doubleheader, with left-hander Lee Jae-ik to bolster the bullpen and Choi Ji-kwang available depending on his physical condition. Among the outfielders, Kim Dong-jin and Kim Ho-jae could be called up.

On September 1, each team’s roster will be expanded by five players. Given the Futures League pool and team reinforcement points, it’s easy to see who could make the cut.스포츠토토

The date is just three days away. However, the team managers are reluctant to name names. Why?

“Many players in the Futures League are waiting for the September expansion draft,” says Lee. In a way, it’s their last hope for the season. If we talk about it first, some players might be disappointed, and it might change at the last minute,” he said.

The Futures League players have been working hard to reach the first team, and for them, September is the beginning of hope.

Which players will take advantage of the expanded roster and fulfill their surprise potential in the first team. It’s the start of a fall that has fans of each team excited.

“I feel like I’m on ice skates” Thor crashes at end of classic, awaiting release with 6 games, 10 HRs, 5.40 ERA remaining

Posted on 28 August 2023 by maxytee.com

The humiliation of Thor. Noah Syndergaard (31, Cleveland Cavaliers) was designated for assignment immediately following his start.

Syndergaard started against Toronto at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 28 (ET) and struggled, allowing five runs on six hits (three home runs) and four walks with three strikeouts in six innings.

He was hit by three home runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the first, George Springer in the fourth, and Davis Schneider in the sixth.

The team won 10-7, but Syndergaard wasn’t smiling. It would be his final start. Cleveland announced a pending release after the game. The decision puts Syndergaard on waivers, and if no team claims him, he will either be sent to the Guardians’ minor league system or become a free agent.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona said he was disappointed that “the home runs have gotten him in trouble.”

Syndergaard was selected by Toronto in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. However, he made his big league debut in a New York Mets uniform. In his rookie season in 2015, he showed promise, going 9-7 with a 3.24 ERA in 24 games. The hard-throwing pitcher took off in his second year. He won 14 games in 2016 and 13 in 2018. Injuries limited him to seven games in 2017, and he bounced back with 13 and 10 wins in 2018 and 2019, respectively, before missing the entire 2020 season with Tommy John surgery. He returned in 2021, but only made two appearances. His ERA is 9.00

Surgery had an aftermath. Never regained his velocity. Stayed in the low 90s. Ultimately, the Mets couldn’t keep him. Syndergaard bounced between the Los Angeles Angels in 2022, the Philadelphia Phillies, and finally the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. He signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers, but was plagued by injuries and underperformance.온라인바카

It was a sad ending for the Dodgers, and he changed teams again. On March 27, he was traded to Cleveland in exchange for Ahmed Rosario. Trouble was, he didn’t bounce back in Cleveland. In six games, he went 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 33 1/3 innings.

After a start against Cincinnati on July 17, Syndergaard said, “I feel like I’m pitching on ice skates. Every time I try to use my legs, it feels like I’m sliding down,” he said after the game.

“Cleveland tried to help Syndergaard with his consistency, but he allowed 10 home runs in five August starts, and with the American League Central race heating up, both sides seemed to be running out of time,” MLB.com reported on the wait for his release.

A high school pitcher who became a ballboy at Jamsil Stadium got what he never imagined…’Permanent absence’ dream germinates

Posted on 28 August 2023 by maxytee.com

I love the green field, and I’m going to make enough money to pay for dinner and transportation. The unthinkable happened to the second-year high school baseball pitcher who became a ball boy at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

It’s the afternoon of the 27th at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul. The Doosan Bears were practicing for their final game of a three-game weekend series against the SSG Landers when a strange boy stood out among the professional players.

Skinny but athletic, with a tanned face and short haircut. It was obvious that he was a high school baseball player. The young student played catch with the Doosan players and helped clean up the grounds with other training assistants after practice. With a big smile on his face, he greeted each person he met on the field with an insistent greeting.

This boy is Kim Ji-yoon (17), a sophomore on the baseball team at Bucheon High School. This year, he pitched in two games for the Golden Lions and the second half of the high school baseball weekend league (Game B). While the phoenix tournament, the last high school baseball tournament in 2023, is in full swing, Bucheon High School wrapped up this year’s tournament schedule, which began in March, with a 3-7 loss in the first game against Wonju on the 18th.

Before preparing for next year’s season with the sophomore class leading the way, the Bucheon baseball team was given a short vacation. The free time was like honey at an age when you want to play, but Kim Ji-yoon didn’t hesitate to volunteer with the Jamsil Baseball Field Ballboys.

“I love being on the baseball field,” he smiles, “and I thought I could earn some of the money for dinner and transportation for the baseball team’s activities, so I got my parents’ permission to volunteer with Volvo.

There are 30 official ballboys at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which is shared by Doosan and LG. Every day, two training ballboys and six game ballboys are needed. Of the 30, whichever one fits the schedule that day is sent to the field. Kim, who appeared as a ballboy for the first time last week, is not yet part of the official pool of 30, but is on a kind of probationary status that allows him to be used when a spot becomes available. He’ll need to gain experience to be included in the full pool.

After applying to be a ball boy, Kim was used as a ball boy for two games. On the second day, something unexpected happened. He arrived at the stadium two hours before the 6 p.m. game, but it was 12 p.m. When he got to the field, Doosan’s Heo Kyung-min, Kim Jae-hwan, and Kang Seung-ho were already training.

Kim’s stern greeting was met with interest from all three players, who simultaneously said, “Are you a baseball team?” Were they surprised that a high school baseball player came to work on his day off? Heo Kyung-min handed his glove to Kim and invited him to train with him.

The amazing experience continued. While Kim was playing catch with Kim Jae-hwan, pitching coach Kwon Myung-cheol approached him and said, “I have a good pitcher for you,” and introduced him to Heo Kyung-min. Coach Kwon asked Kim to throw a ball and gave him a one-on-one lesson on the spot. He then took Kim to play catch with the Doosan pitchers.

It didn’t end there. After the pitching session, Choi Won-jun was heading to the dugout when he saw Kim sitting in the shade of the fence, out of the sun, and said, “Come with me.” Choi took him to the locker room. I was touched by Choi Won-joon’s consideration to cool off. As he walked out of the locker room, he bumped into Kim Dong-ju, who was shadow pitching with a towel in the indoor practice area. The black-haired boy greeted him cheerfully. “Do you want to train with me?”

It was an unforgettable experience. On the 27th (Sunday), I couldn’t play ballboy because there were no vacancies, but Kim came to the ballpark again. I greeted him with gratitude, watched him train, threw with him, and helped him.스포츠토토

When interviewed, the seventeen-year-old’s words resonated with me. “I’m not a great player right now, so when I train, I always think I’m the last one (of all the players) and I do my best. I think training to the best of my ability is the most basic way I treat the job of being an athlete.”

Speaking of “last” and “best,” Kim’s dream is to become a “permanent fixture. And for now, his hope is to be included in the 30-person Jamsil Ballpark official ball boy staff.

‘Out for the season,’ right? 9-year record set, 40 homers, 20 doubles on the horizon… Man-Tearing Ohtani’s ‘4-Run Rampage’ in back-to-back days

Posted on 27 August 2023 by maxytee.com

After suffering a season-ending injury as a pitcher, Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) has soared to new heights, setting a franchise record for the first time in nine years.

Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, an RBI, two runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases in two starts at designated hitter in the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series against the New York Mets at Citi Field in Flushing, N.Y., on Sunday.

Ohtani started the first game of a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds on April 24, but lasted just 1⅓ innings before being pulled from the game due to unforeseen circumstances. Normally, Ohtani doesn’t take himself out of the game when something goes wrong, so it was a bit unusual for him to be removed from a two-hitter, and there was a good reason for it.

Ohtani was examined immediately after leaving the mound, and it was determined that he had a torn right elbow ligament (UCL). A torn elbow ligament is a major injury that could lead to Tommy John surgery, which would keep him out for at least a year. While the decision to undergo surgery has yet to be made, Ohtani will no longer take the mound for the remainder of the season.

While Ohtani is out for the remainder of the season as a pitcher, it’s a different story as a hitter. Despite knowing he had a torn ACL, Ohtani batted in the second game of the doubleheader against New York, and the day before, he went 1-for-2 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBIs against the Mets. He was able to keep the momentum going.

Despite suffering a serious injury, Ohtani came up to bat and led his team to victory. It was a cartoonish performance. In his first at-bat with the bases loaded in the first inning, Ohtani battled Mets starter Carlos Carrasco to eight pitches before “powering” a high fastball for a one-out double to center field. He came home on a Brandon Drury single to give the Angels the lead.

It wasn’t a one-hitter. With two outs in the top of the second inning and a 3-0 lead, Ohtani pulled Carrasco’s slider hard and lined it into right field. It was enough for the first baseman to cross the plate, and Ohtani used his tremendous athleticism to reach third base. He then scored his second run of the game, this time on a single by Drury.

Even without the hit, Ohtani’s performance was threatening enough. In the top of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded and the score 5-0, Ohtani drew a walk to complete his “three-strikeout” game. He stole second base to complete his 18th stolen base of the season, and then stole third base on a wild pitch, putting him just one stolen base shy of joining the 40-homer, 20-stolen base club for the second time in his career.

And it led to one thing: a record. According to MLB.com’s Sarah Lance, Ohtani recorded a stolen base with a multi-hit game for the first time in his career, something that hadn’t happened to an Angels player since Howie Kendrick on May 12, 2014.

Ohtani singled to center field in his fourth at-bat of the seventh inning as a leadoff hitter and then drove in former Lotte Giants pitcher Brooks Railroad in the eighth inning on an automatic high fly ball to finish the day with a “4-for-4” performance.

There was one dizzying moment in the game. Here’s what happened. In the bottom of the fourth inning, with runners on first and second, Mets first baseman Jeff McNeil tried to steal second base, but Francisco Lindor didn’t move. Angels catcher Logan Ohafi threw the ball to first baseman Trey Cabrera to catch McNeil stealing second, in case Lindor was thrown out at second. But then Lindor raced toward third base.

Seeing this, Cavazza threw the ball at third base at breakneck speed, hitting pitcher Chase Cilses in the back of the head. Cavazza’s throw sent Silseth sprawling to the ground, unable to make any movements, creating a very concerning situation. Angels teammates and trainers rushed to his side to check on him, but for several minutes he was unable to get up.

Eventually, Angels and Mets players dropped to one knee and waited for him to improve. Eventually, after some time, Silses was able to pull himself up and was helped to the dugout by a trainer. The Citi Field crowd breathed a sigh of relief that he had avoided a major injury and sent him off with a rousing ovation.온라인바카

Then came the messy part. In the bottom of the eighth inning, an 86.2 mph (138.7 km/h) curveball from Angels pitcher Jose Soriano struck Pete Alonso in the shoulder. Alonso nearly took a hit to the head while dodging the ball, and an altercation with catcher Ohafi after he was hit by a pitch led to a brief bench-clearing as players from both sides spilled onto the field. However, the players returned to the dugout without further incident, and the game ended with a 5-3 Angels victory.

Perfect until the 3rd inning → Kim Do-young walks & hits, 5 runs scored…Moon Dong-joo 10 wins?

Posted on 27 August 2023 by maxytee.com

Hanwha Eagles pitcher Moon Dong-ju (20) failed to get the win.

Moon started the game against the KIA Tigers at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on July 27. He was perfect through the first three innings, but the Kia bats were too much for him. He gave up five runs on five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in five innings.

He was flawless until the third inning. He struck out nine batters. He mixed a 150+ mph fastball with a high-speed slider and a curveball, and the KIA batters were helpless. The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning on a solo shot by Kim Tae-yeon and a sacrifice fly by Eurhyup in the fourth.

However, in the fourth inning, the KIA batters took over. Park Chan-ho, who was on fire, hit a single to center field. He then gave up a walk to Kim Do-young. He struck out Na Sung-beom, but Choi Hyung-woo was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

He struck out Socrates on a grounder in front of the pitcher, but it was no good and left an unpleasant aftertaste. He eventually tied the game when a slider he threw to the elusive Kim Sun-bin turned into a three-run double.

In the fifth inning, he struck out the side in order and continued to pitch steadily. But in the top of the sixth, a 153-kilometer fastball to leadoff hitter Kim Do-young was hit into right field for a single. Na also failed to get a favorable count and threw a changeup, allowing a hit that fell between first and second base.

He tried an outside fastball against the experienced Choi Hyung-woo, but gave up a two-run double to left-center field. After giving up three consecutive hits, the Hanwha bench signaled for him to be removed.스포츠토토

It was a disappointing 76-pitch outing. Moon will now have three weeks to recharge his batteries before heading to the Hangzhou Asian Games on September 2 against LG Electronics in Jamsil. He has thrown 114⅓ innings so far. He will approach the 120-inning limit in his next game.

He could have reached the 10-win plateau if he had won both games, including this one, but he failed to do so. Getting hit hard with his fastball is definitely something he needs to work on. His fastball topped out at 155 mph and averaged 150 mph on the day.

Another loss to Cleveland…Toronto in a three-game losing streak, only Hyun-Jin Ryu to rely on

Posted on 26 August 2023 by maxytee.com

The Toronto Blue Jays have lost three straight games. Toronto fell 2-5 at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday (Feb. 26) at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Toronto went with a starting lineup of Whit Merrifield-Bo Bissett-Brandon Belt-Vladimir Guerrero Jr.-George Springer-Dalton Bashaw-Matt Chapman-Alejandro Kirk-Kevin Kiermaier.

Cleveland’s batting order was Stephen Kwan-Jose Ramirez-Cole Calhoun-Oscar Gonzalez-Andres Jimenez-Ramon Loriano-Gabriel Arias-Bo Naylor-Miles Straw.

Toronto struck first. Springer led off the second inning with a solo shot to right off Tanner Bybee, but Cleveland answered with a solo shot of their own in the top of the third. Tied 1-1, Cleveland took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on Loriano’s mid-month two-run homer. Gonzalez and Loriano added a run in the sixth on RBI doubles.

Toronto battled back and got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Guerrero Jr. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Cleveland scored the game-winning run on a Jimenez single.

Meanwhile, Ryu Hyun-jin will try to make it three wins against Cleveland on April 27. Following his first win in 444 days against the Chicago Cubs on April 14 (five innings, two hits, two walks, three strikeouts, two earned runs), Hyun-jin Ryu threw 83 pitches over five innings against the Cincinnati Reds on April 21, allowing four hits, one walk, seven strikeouts and two earned runs (no earned runs) in Toronto’s 10-3 victory.온라인바카

With his second win in four starts, Ryu lowered his ERA from 2.57 to 1.89. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in 17 consecutive innings, dating back to his last start against the Baltimore Orioles in his return from injury.

Starting for Cleveland against Ryu will be left-handed rookie Logan Allen. Making his first big league start this year, Logan is 6-6 with a 3.31 ERA in 19 appearances this season.

NC coach Kang Myung-hwa on the big win the day before: “Hitters’ aggressive approach was the main reason”

Posted on 26 August 2023 by maxytee.com

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime game.”

NC Dinos manager Kang Myung-ho recapped the previous day’s game.

Ahead of the team’s home game against the LG Twins in the 2023 KBO on Saturday at NC Park in Changwon, Kang reviewed the 25th’s game against LG.

The Dinos pounded out 19 hits and 14 runs in a 14-1 victory over LG on the 25th, led by the bats and a seven-inning, one-hit shutout by starting pitcher Eric Peddie. Notably, the Dinos had every starter hit and score a run, the 87th time in the KBO and the first time this season.

“I think the bats were very focused from the beginning yesterday. I think it was mainly due to the fact that we actively attacked the incoming pitches to catch the count,” he said with a bright smile.

In the game, the NC batters scored a lot of runs by actively attacking the first and second pitches of their opponent’s starter, Choi Won-tae.

Coach Kang said, “We were prepared in the hitting department. When the count gets hard, it becomes difficult to win because Choi has so many good changeups. We tried to be more aggressive with the balls that came in to get the count,” Kang explained.

When will catcher Kim Hyung-jun, who recently returned to the first team from injury and hit back-to-back home runs against the SSG Landers in Incheon on April 24, be ready to start? When asked, the manager gave him a clear task: to “get in sync with the pitchers.

“He hasn’t had much experience with the pitchers in the first team, so he’s been working in the bullpen during games. We’re trying to get him to start after he’s gotten a little bit better. Depending on the pitcher’s tendencies and the game situation, we will actively use them.”

Left-hander Tanner Tully, who will take the mound for NC on Sunday, is known for his steady delivery and sharp changeup. However, his fastball is not good enough.

Coach Kang said, “Tanner is definitely a player who has a sense of stability. His changeup is of high quality,” Kang said. “His slider to lefties is a sweeper, and that’s the best part of the pitch. He has the advantage of being able to extend his innings if he is able to execute well.”

“I think (Tanner’s) velocity will find its own form as the games go on. It’s an adjustment period. There are parts of the game where he can’t control his fastball early in the game, and we are checking how he prepares to pitch in the bullpen before the game,” he said, adding, “We will talk about it later to take it in the best direction possible.”스포츠토토

In addition to Tanner, NC’s starting lineup was Son Ah-seop (designated hitter), Park Min-woo (second base), Park Gun-woo (right field), Jason Martin (center field), Kwon Hee-dong (left field), Do Tae-hoon (first base), Seo Ho-cheol (third base), Kim Joo-won (shortstop), and Ahn Jung-yeol (catcher).
